What is planning

Planning is the process of thinking about the things that you have to include to achieve your goal. Planning is the way of outlining tasks to achieve the goals (Investor words, (n.d). It is important to plan because it helps the teachers to understand the curriculum, it allows the teacher to know what she wants to teach in each lesson. Planning gives the teacher a better chance to think of the objectives that she wants to achieve each day and each lesson. Planning guides has 3 different types which are long-term planning, medium-term planning, and short-term planning.

Long-term plan

Long term planning (LTP) is the plans that covers the units taught over a year. (LTP) is always written as learning outcomes, and it has to be linked to a specific curriculum that the school use. It is a yearly planner, it has to include the aims that the teacher wants to cover over a year, the assessment that she will do over a year (twinkl teaching Wiki, (n.d).  Long term planning is to sit up the learning environment indoor and outdoor. The purpose of using (LTP) is to know when each unit has to be studied in the year, to know what are the learning outcomes that the child has to achieve in this specific year, to know the length of each unit (Brookfield Primary School. (n.d).  A long-term plan should provide the objective of each subject area based on the curriculum. This type of planning guides will benefit the teacher a lot because it will help her to provide a good environment for the child to achieve the objectives (Primary Professional Development Services. (n.d). Another advantage of long term planning is that it develops the 5 dominos for each child.

Medium-term plan

Medium term planning (MTP) it is to plan many lessons for a period of weeks such as half-term or a whole term for each subject. It covers the learning outcomes of each unit. It also covers the activities that the teacher will do for each learning objective. It is important to plan for a medium plan because it helps the teacher to know the learning objectives of each lesson and what are the outcomes. It is an easy way to plan for the activities that will be implemented for each lesson. It helps the teacher to know the amount of time needed to cover the objectives. It is always linked to the long-term planning (Weston, (n.d). It helps that teacher to do her formative assessment depending on the learning outcomes of each subject.

Short-term plan

Short term planning (STP) is a way of explanation how medium-term plans will be implemented on a week. It is a weekly plan and it can be daily plan.It has to be detailed to help the teacher to know what she is going to teach and how (Sudhakar, 2017). It gives the teacher a chance to observe the learners and to scaffold them. Teacher should have plan A and B if something happens in this day she can do the plan b, A short term planning has to be more detailed than the medium-term planning in order to explain the activities for each day.  Teacher should include a differentiation in her weekly plan. It is important to do weekly plans because if something happens to the teacher, others can explain the lesson because everything is written in the lesson plan.  Teacher should include the formative assessment that she will do each day or at the end of each week to know how to scaffold the child’s learning. A short-term planning helps the teacher to organize and manage her time for each lesson (Weston, n.d).
